You can report pm's just as you can report posts, because people can do as many things wrong over pm's as posts.

Although generally, it's a lot worse if your pm gets reported because people pming each other generally understand and don't mind the other person's sense of humor.

Seriously though just to clarify we can't read your PM's unless they are reported to us. That is why they are called Private Messages. And the reason the ability to report them exists is, as other people have mentioned, so we have some ability to deal with abusive behaviour happening 'behind the scenes'. If you send someone a PM full of insults and slurs they have just as much reason to report that as if you had simply posted an insult on the forums proper.

I held a flavor text contest and promised the winners that I would nominate their cards for CotW. After being rejected from CotW for being reprints of a preexisting card (albeit with new flavor) I decided I'd try to do the next best thing for them and create my own thread with my own poll so we could at the very least see which flavor design the community liked the most.

For some reason, my thread was treated as "a joke" and "spam" by a moderator and apparently (despite the fact that making a poll requires making a new thread) I was told "multiple threads around a joke is disruptive and distracting".

This is not moderation. This is denying content because it doesn't fit the moderator's arbitrary template. It's denying a post for having an element of humor and satire despite it having complete legitimacy beyond that fact.

The fact that a thread like this has been closed is frankly an outrage. Whether in this thread publicly or privately in PMs, I would like to discuss this with a moderator. Thank you.

If you'd care to PM me about it, we can absolutely have that discussion. (Though I'll actually be going to bed soon, so there may be an intermission for sleep.)

I'd like to chime in with my opinion as an outside viewer.

The thread in question isn't what I would define as spam or malicious. Rubik created a contest (admittedly, an apparently joke contest) in which plenty of users participated. It's common practice for our contests to have separate voting threads created afterwards to direct attention to them. The cards that won from that contest were added to our weekly forum contest, but denied entry because they didn't fit the spirit of that contest, which I feel is ultimately fine and within the discretion of the contest host to decide. This denial doesn't mean that the new thread shouldn't exist, even as a parody.

That said, Rubik, you've garnered a reputation as a spammer. I don't really know your posting habits, yet I've heard about it from multiple forum members from the WOTC days. I'm not sure whether or not this is a fair assessment, but it exists. What I would have liked to see from moderation in regards to this thread's closure is the following: (1) An explanation of why the thread in question is being closed. (2) Instruction or suggestion on alternatives, namely the fact that the original thread could have its original post edited to include a poll. (It can, Rubik; I just double-checked.) (3) Clear correspondence between Rubik and the mod in question. I don't actually know what our moderation policies are here; I haven't been much involved. When I say clear, I don't necessarily mean transparent. The issue can be handled over PM.

If any of the mods could respond to the policies I've questioned, I'd appreciate hearing about it all.

@Razor: Making a poll in the same thread as the submissions is a surefire way to decrease poll awareness for voters.

@Rush: Back on WotC, I posted on KoS, but I kept any spamming I did limited to that forum. I was primarily an RPer and the majority of my 9000+ posts on Wizards were from RPing. I was by no means someone who spammed anywhere that didn't allow for it.

Okay. I didn't intend on making you out to be a spammer; I just heard you were back when we all WOTC'd together.

Rubik is less of a spammer than me.

I'd like to suggest an amendment to the CoC that would let everyone get along amicably.

Do not post.
Do not create.
This is out of necessity.
You will not receive an official warning from the moderators for posting in a language. However, repeatedly running afoul of this rule could result in a warning for spamming.

This policy encompasses all content posted directly to the site, including but not limited to forum posts, the wiki, avatars, user names, signatures, and private messages.






I think with this simple change we can solve a lot of problems and grow as a community.




On a serious note, this was just a cute observation of what can be done with paraphrasing! "See, the rules say, Do not post!".
