As is custom I have decided to miss a round. It's always so easy to postpone reading the due date on assignments until the time is up. And starting to work on something? That's just too much to ask!

*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play

I will probably skip this year of YMTC:PT.

My heart really isn't in it with Covid preventing me from playing what little MTG I normally would.

I accept my ranking but wish to explain my reasoning.

I wanted this effect to work with Smokestack (Sac N of any permanent, sac 1 more any permanent), Tremble (Sac N of a specific permanent, sac 1 more of exactly that), and Tainted Aether (Sac N of a subset of permanents, sac 1 more on the same rules). The best wording I could think of was to attempt to expand the original ability. The Smokestack and Tainted Aether interactions were a big part of why I didn't restrict it as per Raz -- would it trigger if a "Sac a permanent" or "Sac a creature or a land" had a creature sacrificed to it? It would absolutely need a ruling, and probably should have had reminder text

I was just scared my card would only be played in a combo deck or something degenerate and didn't want it to be too cheap. It would be a sick commander though I think. I haven't played standard in a long time either so idk power level anymore. I think I was too hung up on keeping the transmute costs all 3 for symertry and history. Riparoni.

Also not that it would have effected the score probably, but it was supposed to represent the fact I am a programer, and she kind of manipulates and programs your hand and deck and battlefield. Each ability sayign trans was just a random coincidence

Thanks for your comments and all the effort you put into judging! FWIW, I find flavour text often detracts from cards with flavour that already comes through clearly. I see its
use for worldbuilding, which is hard to do in the YMTC context, and for tying a card together if the flavour is complex or non-obvious. But I feel like many cards with strong flavour in the mechanics just have flavour text added on to fill card space. Obviously a really smart quip is cute, but short of that I tend to avoid it.

I know I'm charge of grade compiling, but I won't be able to do that in time for the deadline. I'll see about getting that done tomorrow night.

So does that translate to:

Spoiler

? Or not because there are fewer competitors? There was confusion around this last year. Sorry I'm not able to do this myself. I'll edit in the current scores as soon as this is cleared up, but in the meantime, the second round has been posted.

a little less if you're using the original rules. Q can double-check me on this, but pulling up my old spreadsheet I think it's this:

Spoiler

although as the host you'll have to break the tie between Lily and Tevish, since they sit on a boundary. one of them gets a point, the other doesn't.

I'm gonna give it to Lily. Tevish's card is fine, if a little narrow and overcosted. But it just doesn't really fit the prompt, I think. Lily's card is cool, although I definitely would have made it at least a 3/6. But I'm a sucker for legendaries with an equilateral triangle of effects.

Updated the Round 2 post to include the standings. Thank you everyone!
