To point 1... not entirely unanticipated. To point to, boo. To point 3, mega boo unless this is a setup for him to eat ugin for a replacement spark to make his resurgence into the multiverse. To prior point, I'm with Barinellos... I like Saproling tokens and zombie tokens just fine but character tokens? If they're written well they're written well but if tokenism is the reason they basically never are.

The Vraska part is a bit disappointing, but convincing someone that you didn't just pick up her Ixalan memories and prepared a brainwashing ahead of time would take a lot of hand-waving.

ngl I'm incredibly skeptical of the book spoiler, especially the parts where Chandra's Triumph and Desperate Lunge are actively misleading the playerbase about the events of the story. At least not until there's a card for each of them depicting that they're both a ruse.
But also the one where they just take a dump on half of the buildup they did on Ixalan.

Wow, it seems like the book managed to violate the most obvious and well-known rules of storytelling!
Basic things like "show, don't tell", "keep characterization consistent", and "distribute attention proportionally to the importance".
Aside from being important in general, those particular rules are doubly important in the sort of a fast-paced, graphic, cathartic final confrontation that War of the Spark is.

It would have been easy to do a story where we get into the planeswalkers' heads as they more or less march on Bolas's citadel to stop him. That would probably have worked better than what they tried in the actual novel.

It's not even close to the worst Magic.book.
I also really find myself disliking Professor more often than not.

It might not be the worst Magic book, but after going almost a decade without them AND being the conclusion to an arc that technically started in Kaladesh but realistically started back in Alara, it left A LOT to be desired.

I honestly see a lot of parallels here between it and the Invasion cycle, so i can't say it's caught me by much of a surprise. I'm not even disagreeing with you either, let me be clear, it's just I feel like I set my expectations realistically given their history.

Mind, I'm aware I'm also being fairly forgiving of the book as well since I've a huge soft spot for Greg.
