Okay, I phrased that poorly. If Chandra shows up, I don't think she would necessarily play a role in Elspeth escaping the Underworld. Theros Beyond Death will most certainly be about Elspeth escaping the Underworld and having the Gatewatch facilitate her escape would probably undermine making Elspeth the focus of the set. That said, Chandra does have a reason to go to Theros if the novel is anything to go by. Ajani, less so, but I'm still hung up on the comic highlighting Chandra and Ajani's relationship (plus if Chandra doesn't know how to get to Theros, Ajani could be her guide).

An idea of how the story could go

I don't actually think this is the direction the story will go as it's a Chandra-centric story instead of an Elspeth one (and the aforementioned Gatewatch fatigue), but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. However, if Chandra doesn't go to Theros in this set or the Forsaken novel, then the armor remark feels like a throwaway line constructed as a plot hook. Which, admittedly, given the source material seems likely.

Well, we can directly track Chandra because of the comic.
But there again, something else that I find mildly amusing:

That armor isn't even from Theros. It's from Alara.
Hell, everything being what it is, his armor is substantially more advanced than what Theros can produce.

Isn't Theros just beginning it's iron age? I thought there was some flavour about iron being a recent development, maybe only known to worshipers of Purphoros?
My secret hope for the story is that Elspeth remains dead but contributes something to Phyrexia's eventual defeat. She could give them the Godsend or enable an alliance or somesuch.

Ajani doesn't have much reason to go back to Theros does he? As far as he knows Elspeth is dead and he doesn't like the gods at all.

I just realized that black in Theros and Eldraine represent opposite aspects of the colour- The court of Lochthwain venerates persistence, whereas the followers of Erebos preach morbid acceptance.
I don't see anything coming of this, but it tickled my fancy.

I guess it shows how Creative has moved in showing 's less negative traits: from just elemental neutral aspects to actually talking about its philosophy.
