I have feelings about that.
Complicated, complicated feelings.

Are we at "WHY MUST I FEEL?" levels here, or more like "repressed childhood misunderstandings" levels?

The ambivalence manifest between chuckling and threatening harm of some kind.
Y'know, in a good way.

Ah, I got it. Like reading the title to, what, about half of my stories?

:D

Probably about a fifth of mine, too, if I'm being honest.

I really like this. It's got a nice mix of levity and heart, and a very nicely done gut-punch at the end. It's very nice to see HS Tryst being this supportive for her friend. I was looking at your list from a while back about who Sharaka probably has good relationships with, and Donagut stood out to me. I can't help but picture Donny sneaking in some alcohol to Sharaka during her convalescence...

Thanks for posting, Huey!

Why would you do that to me?!

No, but seriously, that was really good. I just was NOT prepared for that ending.

The ending is decidedly poignant and it has a poetry that steps outside the silly setting.

And I'm at least slightly chagrined to say it makes me want to drop the Chessmasters on her like a ton of bricks.
I don't know why my darker impulses rear their heads that way, but it just makes them.

In my head they grew very close in middle school, two outcasts against the world all, but even then it's not obvious that they'd be able to connect with each other's pain so strongly, so yeah. Cruel as I can be with my characters, I couldn't leave Sharaka without someone at her side.

Irresponsible as it would be, Sharaka would be very grateful :D Maybe that could be how they became proper friends? Like, they were friends-of-friends before, and Donagut visits her with a flask?

Given how much I feel for my "heroes", I also wonder why I do that to myself :V

Just so you know, this is the result of me thinking "I should try to write something slice-of-lifey" so it's not like I was intending to do that from the start... which may be part of it? :D

As the titular quote of a webcomic goes, "life is what happens Between Failures". And it surely feels sometimes that the only victory in your reach is surviving.

Then I'd be grateful if you kept a respectful distance from my downtrodden scaly girl, thank you :D
(I may be interested in canon Sharaka brushing against them in the future, but that's another matter)

Thank you all for reading and for the kind words!
