I want to be excited about Pokemon Legends so badly, but I'm struggling. Just give me any piece of information that indicates I'll have to expend some brain power during encounters, instead of just exploiting type matchups.

I've had issues at work lately, so I've been feeling unsocial.
And work, meanwhile has gone into a different sort of issue as people call in sick.

Despite my last message to the contrary, I am not alive.

One of my co-workers has been out sick for nearly two weeks, leaving us with 3 people, maybe 4 if management feels like it, for a patient load that we should have at least 6 people for. We just had some **** self-reflection deal, too, wherein we all had to talk with our managers, and I discovered that, across all our offices, we are 5 people short just in x-ray (not counting the one that's in the army reserves and has been off most of this month to take care of things pertaining to that).

So I've simply been too exhausted to make the effort to socialize.

I would be asking for a raise in that position.

Oof. Yeah, I'm not sure mjack is wrong in abstract. Seems like '21 is still hard on folks overall

I sign up for a job planning to do the amount of work advertised in the job description. If they want me to do more than that on a normal basis; then they need to change the job description and raise the salary to an appropriate level to compensate.

So many places take advantage of people by holding a job over them. It’s disgusting. People currently complain about there being s “labor shortage”; when the reality is a lot of employers just don’t want to pay a reasonable wage AND hire a reasonable amount of workers. So the dumb management just completely burns out the people they have left to ‘compensate’.

The correlation to that is, of course, that the money to pay those people doesn't just appear. It requires either cuts in payroll or manpower. The only other alternative would be to pass the costs on to the customer, which consequently roles out to the larger economy.

Or the company could make a slightest less obscene margin. That’s often an option for Fortune 500 companies that isn’t cutting payroll/manpower or raising prices or similar.

———————-

Controversial Opinion: After a certain point, if your business can’t survive without severe abuse of your workforce, then you shouldn’t be in business imo. Very few jobs are worth the level of harm inflicted by burning out employees.

———

A very good example of the above is crunch in video game development. That’s a complete failure of the management.

——————————————

Another Controversial Opinion:

We probably should be paying higher prices rather than subsidizing slave wages at places like Walmart. Walmart literally hires HR people to help their employees apply for social programs; bc it’s net cheaper than paying them a non-poverty wage.

Problem is, it's never one blip.
It rolls from one to the next.
If you want to actually get to the heart of it, we should be incentivizing companies to actually keep our economy inside our borders instead of hiring overseas workers working actual slave wages. Beyond that it's a net positive for humanity, it would give us an actual competitive job market that you wouldn't have to scrape by and couldn't afford to risk your security on

The problem is, a ton of those goods are considered essential to the conditions we are accustomed to living in and would become substantially less affordable if not produced overseas at sweatshops. It would still be better for the country to keep production domestic.

I mean, that's literally the reason we don't let companies use slavery or dump nuclear waste in playgrounds. Causing harm is always suspect.

Yeah, I'd rather have the customers of Walmart pay an extra couple dollars than shove the cost onto the taxpayer. If you're worried about people not being able to afford things, then subsidize those people instead of a specific retailer (through their underpaid employees). For some reason people are often more comfortable with less direct subsidies, like they can pretend there's no subsidy that way or something?

That's a myopic solution, that can only work locally. Everyone everywhere would do better if we could all just agree to a few basic guidelines. We need to raise standards everywhere, and encourage businesses to consider not just the local economy, but the global economy in their drive for profit.
In the end, capitalism is just not an efficient system.

Oh, it's a VERY efficient system, it's just that its efficiency ain't geared toward most people.

So, in other news, how has everyone been?

My professional life has seen a degree of up turn as the problem employee has foolishly decided to try her fortunes elsewhere. This is good for me, and will be bad for her as most employers are not as lax to cooperate with her... Well can them quirks.

Unfortunately there is still a degree of tumult, but not too the degree that she was causing.

Busy. With school back in session, everything shifts back to that. We're starting to settle back into things, but there's a looming sense of dread for what might be coming with COVID over the next couple of weeks and months.

It's been draining.

Also, I've had a sore neck for the last couple of...months. I should probably get that looked at...

Ah, yes. I've known people like that myself. Glad you find yourself at least one problem down!

Pretty good, all things considered. Last week we were down a manager but also so underworked (if that's a word) that I could easily work 3-4 hours and call it a day, so a pretty resting time. Now everyone is coming back from vacation and work is surging back up, but still within reasonable levels. I used the slack to play basketball with a friend and helping my grandpa with mowing and whatnot.

Glad to hear such a nuisance has left your workplace, I never had the misfortune of having such a coworker but I heard enough horror stories to have an idea :V

Is that legal? Did they have to pretend you hadn't sent in your resignation letter?

It’s the United States. Of course it’s legal for “At Will Employment”.

They can fire you for any reason that isn’t for being part of a protected class. You would lose if you brought a case; but let’s be honest no one smart is going to sue a billion dollar company wo a clear winner.
