Congrats DJ...and I think in the long run owning is cheaper then renting if you buy right. Even with recent work on my house factored in, I am paying less per month then my ex is far her smaller apartment. I did buy in 2012 when the market was just recovering though, so my point of view may be just a tad off.

I've always rented. I grew up in the country and parents had 2.5 acres. It took 3 hours ever week just to mow the yard, and that was only part of the yard work.

The most I do now is snake out the drains. Any other maintenance is handled by the property manager.

I have a hot tub and a pool. I cant even imagine how much the maintenance bills on those things are.

Also, I totally agree with renting >>> owning (most of the time). But right now we have a crazy situation going on with interest rates. I just got a 30 year loan at 2.5% fixed. That's nuts. I'm basically owning this house for about two thirds of what I could likely rent it for in 2 years. So in the event I need to leave (which is generally likely), I should be able to rent it at a profit and definitely not at a loss.
