The new jungle book is far better than the original, it really encapsulates what the books are about... The little ones saw that one a LOOOOT.

Terrible name for a dog

A wolf tho...

My favourite StarWars things are Mando and Rogue One and they both happened under Disney so I’m a big fan so far.

Oh yeah, Rogue One was good too

Anyone catching the Cuties controversy? If so, what are your thoughts?

Basically, it's a movie that is being accused of child pornography. It looks pretty bad, superficially, but, of course, I haven't seen it (and won't).

You all are nuts to like Disney Star Wars. It's pretty much total garbage. They've completely screwed everything up, maybe even to the point of impairing the value of the brand. And even if you disagree, they've added exactly nothing to the story, while changing quite a lot of canon and making it far worse. I guess you could say, "who cares, I was entertained," but I'd point out that this kinds of poor decisions could easily hurt future profitability for the company's Star Wars products.

I've heard bad things about Mulan, btw, but not from the Chinese connection. It's yet another Disney movie, where the female protagonist is flawless. I don't really care, but it's making waves. I do get why people wouldn't want flawless role models for their daughters though, so I kind of empathize with the complaint, even though I don't actually care.

It’s a film that just released on Netflix. It’s about a prepubescent twerk crew. The director of the film says it’s a critique on the sexualization of young girls. When the ad posters dropped for Netflix, it featured the crew of young girls in sexually suggestive poses, and people were upset at that. Netflix did a little mea culpa about the advertising materials, saying they didn’t reflect what the film was about, highlighting director’s statements. That quieted down some of the people complaining. Then the film released, and it’s worse than the posters in terms of sexualizing the prepubescent girls. Complainers saying it’s a pedos wet dream. Supporters of the film cling to the defense that it’s a critique of that and it’s supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. Critics of the film say that’s like killing cats to show that killing cats is wrong.

My wife mentioned Kids when we were talking about it. I can see an argument there, but Kids was with teenagers and we all know lot of teens do drugs and have sex. It’s not exactly culturally kosher and I accept there are emotional maturity issues at play, but at least their bodies are ready to have sex. Cuties is worse than that imo because these are children who’s bodies aren’t even ready for sex, and it’s not peer to peer sexualization. My take is that the director could have done more with implied sexuality rather than direct sexualization, still making audiences uncomfortable and delivering the intended message WITHOUT giving pedos wank material. In this case I think they went too far with what they are showing, which distracts from the message they meant to deliver. (I haven’t seen it and am not particularly motivated to - I’m basing that on clips I’ve seen of the film and scenes mentioned in parental guides)

Ok it sounds really terrible how you are describing it. Good analogy about killing cats

KIDS was a really important movie and I wish more people saw it. To me it’s one of those wake up call movies like Requiem for a Dream. A very honest take at what is going on that no one talks about.

Nowadays, kids are having sex much younger than KIDS portrayed too.

That movie was uncomfortable in all the right ways. I wasn’t aroused at all watching. It sounds like Cuties is uncomfortable in all the wrong ways

I loved Kids, and agree it was uncomfortable in all the right ways (I liked Gummo too, which was directed by the guy who wrote Kids - he has a knack for good disturbing). To me teens are grey area where prepubescent children are black and white. Teens are in the process of becoming adults and I think there’s room to play there; prepubescents haven’t even started yet

That’s my issue with it. I don’t think it’s a healthy message for my daughter to basically say: you don’t have to work hard to achieve success, you just have to Be Yourself! I’m not outraged by the Chinese connection, I just think it’s funny

Disney also thanked the CCP in the credits....

“I’m not a box office prognosticator, but it has generated a lot of publicity,” she said, per the outlet. “Let me just put something into context. The real facts are that Mulan was primarily shot—almost in entirety—in New Zealand. In an effort to accurately depict some of the unique landscape and geography of the country of China for this period drama, we filmed scenery in 20 different locations in China. It’s common knowledge that, in order to film in China, you have to be granted permission. That permission comes from the central government.”

McCarthy also added that it’s standard industry practice “to acknowledge in a film’s credits the national and local governments that allowed you to film there. So, in our credits, it recognized both China and locations in New Zealand. I would just leave it at that, but it has generated a lot of issues for us.”

In the credits, films always thank the host country, local municipalities and any local businesses that helped during the filming. That's not controversy it's just common courtesy

Here we go! Its NFL season. We have 0 testing implemented in our building and in approximately 9 hours we will have 150+ people descending upon it. They did a deep clean 2 days ago with the guys with the jet packs on spraying every surface in sight. And they've installed plexiglass panels in between every station (only every station in the building will have someone sitting 2 feet away).

Lucky me, I leave at 5 in the morning before more than only a handful of AVPs will have shown up. And it's my "Friday" so I dont return until wednesday. I hope everyone here is safe but it's not looking good. I dont even know how they're doing meals this year, its normally catered buffet style. Get 5 mins to go get food and then come back to your station and work your game while eating.

I went to my first live poker game tonight

A dozen people or so. First time I shook a hand in months. Lots of talking to old friends. Very little masks.

Had an amazing time but I’m
Aware it was risky and probably not a smart thing to do

I won tho :)

Really fancy food arrived and everyone started to grab some and that’s when I left. Seeing everyone dig into the rack of lamb and stuff, well it felt like a high risk activity

I grabbed a slice of pizza and drove home with my winnings

Good for you man. You gotta know when to fold em.

And we do have food directives, no more catered bfast, and lunch will come in a box. You have to eat outside. So we're going to need about 6 or so more breakers or over half the people ain't gonna get a break on time. This has got to be a headache for my bosses. Glad I'm on night shift for this part.

Commuted sentence, long time Trump advisor.

This is pretty scary, imo. Hopefully it’s nothing.
