I'm not going to lie, it took me longer than it should have to notice that, even though I saw this posted on the WotC Website, this is actually someone else's list....which makes more sense since it keeps tabs on 'Walkers I thought Wizards left behind ages ago.

I'm not so much of a fan of Wizards essentially aggregating MTG info on their front page instead of creating the content themselves, as the outside info, while likely accurate, doesn't seem to hold as much weight as primary source material. However, this seems to be a good look at where a lot of 'Walkers stand in this day and age.

This. Still, it was fun to scroll through and made me go "Oh, right, that guy" a couple of times.

It's obviously incomplete, though, because Slobad is missing. :nonono:

I assumed Xenagos was dead but this makes it sound like he might have just lost his godhood.

It was sort of open ended. At least, open ended enough that he might be back someday.

As the article author, yeah Slobad was difficult and at the very least should have been in the honorable mentions. Proud of the 90-something-minus-one of 90-something inclusion rate otherwise.

Intentionally so. Not that I'm trying to deceive people (there's a scrolling header to always remind you of what site you're on), but for a lot of fans the Mothership is the only place they interact with any story content whatsoever. I obviously don't admire much of the design and functionality (or lack thereof) on the official Magic website, but still wanted to ensure that my site wasn't an entirely jarring experience compared to it.

That's fair. :hattip:

You know what always kinda baffles me about lists of planeswalkers? The way people have embraced Masrath and Tessebik. Like, I can understand wanting to include them for the sake of completeness just to be sure, but I think it's up for debate whether they're even canonical. I remember reading Matt Cavotta's article when it first came out, and I've always assumed the story about those two guys was just an elaborate framing device for Sealed Deck Week, not something that was authorised by Creative and supposed to be taken seriously. I didn't even particularly like it as a framing device because it's just full of staggering coincidences... Thoughts?

You've basically described much of how Ugin's first appearance went.

Very well-done, vronos! I love the high resolution scans of the comics.

I'm pretty sure Ravidel killed Ash Warlord Embereck. In the Battlemage game, you can find Embereck's book, The Tale of Shikar. Near the end of said book, Embereck vows to defend the city of Shikar against Ravidel or die trying. You never encounter him in the game, and the city's trashed when you arrive there, IIRC.

I find the lack of inclusion of Kuthuman, Garth, Greensleeves, et al to be weird, but I appreciate how ambiguous planeswalkerhood was in those early novels. Personally, I think that it's reasonable to assume that not all oldwalkers were as powerful as Urza, Teferi, etc.

Tell me about it. But alas, the kinds of Urza has forever stained Oldwalkers forever (and the writers I guess back in the days...)

Like, Serra and Feroz back in their appearance in Homelands pretty much felt like they are in Neowalkers.

Wait, I thought that was exactly what they were... flavor explanations for limited magic.

This seems as apt a place as any.
Know what I just recalled that still drives me nuts?

Ashiok and Dack STILL don't have any resolution to that damned comic!

Was that where Ashiok was trying to become a Theros god?

Just lock Theros in endless slumber as far as I'm aware.

Considering they just had Ajani randomly leave after swearing he was gonna help the Leonin and get Elspeth back, yeah agreed.

Had Theros 2 come around and been "Ajani rises against the Bourgeoisie Gods" with Thassa and Ashiok I would have been down. But it's too late for that one.
